WFA (GPO)’s Secretary General Zhang Qi Visits Laos
Vientiane, September 11–12 — Zhang Qi, WFA (GPO)’s Secretary-General, led a delegation to Laos to review preparations for the World Farmers Forum 2025, slated to be held in Laos, and to strengthen agricultural cooperation.
During the visit, Mr. Zhang received briefings from Zheng Hong, Director of the WFA Laos Office, and Liu Tinghua, Deputy Director of the WFA Thailand Office, on the progress of venue arrangements, guest invitations, and logistical support. Zhang emphasized the important bridging role of the local offices and called for further efforts to ensure the forum is well-prepared.

The delegation also visited the Laos-China Agricultural Association and toured the Lao company of Yunnan State Farms Group under the guidance of the association’s Secretary-General Yang Xi, gaining insights into China-Laos agricultural collaboration. In addition, Zhang held discussions with local agricultural enterprises involved in durian and tobacco production to gather industry feedback.

Mr. Zhang also met informally with Mr. Bounleuth Luangpaseuth, Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On behalf of its President, Oudet Souvannavong, who is also a member of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Mr. Bounleuth introduced the current state of agricultural development in Laos and explored potential cooperation between Laos and the WFA.
The visit has enhanced collaboration between the World Farmers Association and Lao partners, laying a solid foundation for the upcoming World Farmers Forum 2025.
The delegation included Zheng Hong (Director of WFA Laos Office), Liu Tinghua (Deputy Director of WFA Thailand Office), Zhan Changsong and Li Haiyang (Deputy Directors of WFA Cuba Office). Rifle Cheung, Vice President of the East Myanmar Farmers Association, also participated in related activities.
