The second meeting of the first executive committee of WPA (GPO) was held successfully on the afternoon of May 29. China Agriculture Cooperation Association hosted the meeting, which was held both online and in person. The meeting was attended offline by members of the Executive Committee Nicos Ioannou (Cyprus), Shi Yazheng (China), and Secretary-General Zhang Qi (China), while other members participated online. It summarized the activities of WPA (GPO), member country peasant organizations, and China Agriculture Cooperation Association (Greater China Region of WPA) in the first half of 2023, and discussed work priorities for the next stage.

The meeting urged peasant associations in member countries of WPA (GPO) to continue to consolidate their organizational structure, develop and serve their members, organize various activities, and take the initiative to collaborate with other international and regional peasant organizations.

It underlined that rural industrialization and modernization are the initial steps toward the country's industrialization and modernization. Peasant associations in member countries should work with peasants to increase agricultural output efficiency and competitiveness. Additionally, they should boost the use of science and technology in production and successfully restructure agriculture, among other things.

Upon negotiation, the following issues were approved by the Executive Committee. I. WPA (GPO) will hold its Second International Conference in Greater China in mid-December. II. The creation of Sustainable Development Committee, Art Committee, International Chamber of Commerce and other institutions of WPA (GPO). III. The first round of scholarships will be given to dozens of deserving poor peasant students from Asia (Nepal), Africa (South Africa or Kenya), Latin America (Bolivia or Paraguay), and Europe (Cyprus). IV. A liaison office in mainland China is planned to be set. Finally, there was a vigorous discussion among member peasant organizations about international cooperation projects.

The meeting was also attended by Zhang Hong, Director of International Cooperation Department of WPA (GPO), Cheng Renyong, Assistant Chief of the General Office, Ye Zhigen, Executive Deputy Director of Zhejiang Workstation of CACA (Greater China Region of WPA), Dai Youpeng, Deputy Director of Comprehensive Division of International Cooperation Department, and Michael Parides, CEO of Cyprus LAIKO GROUP.
