On November 8, 2023, WPA’s Secretary General Zhang Qi met with Sun Xi (Singapore), Executive Vice Chairman of WPA Sustainable Development Commission, at Jinsui Building in Shanghai, marking a significant step forward in agricultural sustainability. The meeting presented an in-depth exchange of views including sustainable agricultural development, global agricultural cooperation, as well as a magnificent blueprint for the prosperity and sustainable development of global agriculture.

WPA Sustainable Development Commission is not only financially self-sufficient, but also owns an efficient and professional team, which aims to jointly address the challenges of global agriculture and provide intellectual support for its sustainable development.

Facing the complex situation of global agriculture, the Commission has proposed several business divisions, including the G20 Sustainable Development in Brazil, the Sustainable Development Branch (Malaysia), etc. These programs focus not only on the innovation of agricultural technology, but also on the preservation and promotion of agricultural culture. The General Assembly of 2024 WPA Sustainable Development Commission will be held in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, surely expanding the platform for global agricultural exchanges and cooperation.

WPA intends to set up a film and television group to promote these projects and raise awareness of the importance of agriculture through artistic mediums like films and TV series. It strives to improve social conditions that are conducive to the sustainable development of global agriculture and increase public awareness of agricultural development.

The Sustainable Development Commission encourages members to actively seek diverse funding sources to enable the seamless implementation. At the same time, the Commission will provide financial assistance to members in need to support their agricultural endeavors.

The creation and development of the WPA Sustainable Development Commission has given new impetus to the prosperity and sustainable development of global agriculture. It is expected that, with the joint efforts of all parties, agriculture will usher in a better tomorrow.
