A New Chapter in Sustainable Agriculture: WPA Work Meeting
Recently, the WPA work meeting was concluded in Shanghai, where attendees engaged in an in-depth discussion of a variety of subjects such as agricultural sustainability. Heavyweight attendees included WPA’s Secretary General Zhang Qi, Deputy Secretary General Li Chengxiong (South Korea), Samsung Senior Manager Liang Yiji, and President of DaeGu Bank Shanghai Branch Liang Shenghao. Deputy Directors of International Cooperation Division of China Agriculture Cooperation Association (CACA) Ding Xuehao and Li Ji, Director of CACA’s South Korea Office Li Yuancheng, Vice Head of No. 2 Office of International Cooperation Division Zuo Lei, and Li Yuanfei, Head of Comprehensive Office of Finance Division, also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, WPA’s Secretary General Zhang Qi stressed the importance of international exchanges and cooperation when introducing WPA’s 2024 work plan. He mentioned that WPA would hold the 1st Global Summit on Sustainable Agriculture in Asia in July and shared the planning and preparations for the 3rd Global Peasant Forum in Europe in October.
According to Zhang Qi, Agriculture is the global cause for human survival and well-being. We hope to gather together, jointly explore a new path for sustainable agriculture, and provide more cooperation and exchange opportunities for peasants worldwide through this summit and forum.
Li Chengxiong, former Samsung China president and current WPA’s Deputy Secretary General, echoed Mr. Zhang’s remarks. He shared his understanding and application of agricultural technology during his tenure at Samsung and highlighted the key role of science and technology in driving sustainable agriculture. He stated, “We should leverage modern technology to improve the efficiency of agricultural production and reduce resource waste, thus contributing to global food security.”
Liang Yiji and Liang Shenghao also expressed their views on their fields, respectively. Liang Yiji believed that agricultural digitalization is the future trend, which, he hopes, can be jointly promoted through cooperation with more agriculture-related enterprises. In addition, Liang Shenghao proposed financial policies and measures for sustainable agriculture from a financial perspective.
Ding Xuehao and Liji expressed their full support for WPA and the joint promotion of international agricultural exchanges and cooperation. Li Yuancheng and Zuo Lei shared their work experience and prospects.
The meeting not only deepened the understanding and cooperation of all parties, but also provided guidelines for global agricultural sustainability. The participants all declared their willingness to strive for the promotion of agricultural sustainability.
