WPA Working Conference in Kuala Lumpur: Collaborate for a New Chapter in Sustainable Development and Peasant Forum

WPA held a working conference in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, on March 5. WPA’s Secretary General Zhang Qi, Deputy Secretary General Huang Risheng (former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Director of State Forestry Department Malaysia), Zhang Guoqing (China), Director of International Cooperation Division, Li Guangcai (former Representative of the Parliament of Malaysia) Deputy Director of International Cooperation Division, Li Guoqiang, Executive Deputy Director of General Administration Division, Huang Shengyi, Executive Deputy Director of  Personnel Division, and Huang Ruyi, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Division and Director of WPA Malaysia Office were among those in attendance at the conference. A clear blueprint for future agricultural cooperation and development was outlined during the conference’s in in-depth discussions on the Global Summit on Sustainable Agriculture and the Global Peasant Forum.

The 1st Global Summit on Sustainable Agriculture was the top goal. The focus of the summit, which is to be held in Singapore, is on the trends and instances in agricultural sustainable development. To ensure a smooth summit and achieve the expected result, the participants thoroughly discussed the organizational structure, conference agenda, guest invitation, and promotion strategies.

The conference also discussed the possibility of hosting the 2nd Global Summit on Sustainable Agriculture in Malaysia. As a country rich in agricultural resources, Malaysia boasts abundant experience and unique advantages in sustainable agriculture. The participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on creating an agricultural summit with Southeast Asian characteristics considering the situation in Malaysia, demonstrating high expectations for future agricultural development in Malaysia.

Preparations for Singapore and Malaysia’s participation in the 3rd Global Peasant Forum were also discussed during the meeting.  Singapore and Malaysia, two critical attendees of the Global Peasant Forum, will actively organize delegations to showcase the latest achievements and developments in agricultural sectors. The conference made meticulous arrangements regarding the formation of delegations, selection of forum topics, and reinforcement of cooperation, aiming to speak out in the Global Peasant Forum.

Ultimately, the conference provided an overview of the Malaysia Office’s efforts. Since its establishment, the office has made a substantial contribution to the advancement of agricultural cooperation and advocated agricultural sustainable development. The participants highly appreciate the work of the office and provided suggestions for future endeavors.

WPA working conference in Kuala Lumpur not only strongly supported the preparation of the Global Summit on Sustainable Agriculture and the Peasant Forum but also gave new impetus to international agricultural cooperation and development. Global agricultural sustainable development is starting a new chapter as the conference gets underway. In the days ahead, we hope to see even more successful outcomes in worldwide agricultural development and cooperation.
