China-Korea Agricultural Co-operation Upgraded: WPA Collaborate with Korea for the Future
On the afternoon of June 3, WPA’s Secretary General Zhang Qi met in Shanghai with Deputy Secretary General Lee Sung-woong (Korea). The two parties had a cordial discussion about the future of Sino-Korean agricultural cooperation and how it would be implemented. The meeting saw the release of good signals, which could start a new era of agricultural cooperation between China and South Korea.
WPA, an international organization focused on peasants' rights and interests as well as global agricultural growth, is dedicated to encouraging worldwide agricultural cooperation and trade. During the meeting, Zhang Qi voiced his serious concern for the growth of Korean agriculture, as well as his desire to engage in constructive cooperation with Korea to promote agricultural development in both countries.
Lee Sung-woong thanked for the warm reception and offered an in-depth analysis of Korean agriculture's current position and growth demands. He stressed Korea’s vast market for agricultural product import and export, and he stated his desire to deepen collaboration with WPA to jointly increase overseas markets and introduce more high-quality agricultural goods to meet local demand.
The two parties had a constructive discussion on future collaboration. Mr. Zhang highlighted WPA's willingness to assist Korean agricultural products in growing their worldwide market presence and increasing their competitiveness. At the same time, WPA will help Korea discover sources of imported agricultural items from China, such as garlic and cabbage, to lower prices by direct contacts with the manufacturing base and relieving pressure on Korean consumers.
The gathering also disclosed WPA’s intention to visit South Korea in this September to hold in-depth discussions with the country's agriculture sector and related firms. This plan will give new momentum to China-South Korea agricultural cooperation and take it to the next level.
The meeting provided a chance for the two countries to reinforce mutual understanding of agriculture and build the groundwork for future cooperation. WPA is committed to playing an active role in global agricultural cooperation, promoting pragmatic agricultural cooperation between China and Korea, addressing the challenges that global agriculture faces together, and contributing its wisdom and strength to the long-term development of global agriculture.
