World Peasant Association and Jordan's Ministry of Agriculture Deepens Strategic Cooperation
On January 26, Zhang Qi, Secretary General of the World Peasant Association (WPA), met with Jordan's Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Khaled Al-Hunaifat, in Amman to discuss, among other things, increasing agricultural technical cooperation and encouraging Jordanian agricultural growth. The meeting was attended by Alaa Al-Deek, WPA’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, Pink Maria, Deputy Director of WPA Cyprus Office, Zhang Liang, Vice President of the Eastern Myanmar Peasant Association, and other authorities.
During the meeting, Hunaifat thanked WPA for its long-term attention and support to Jordanian agriculture, emphasizing the significance of cooperation between the two sides. He stated that Jordanian agriculture is confronting two challenges: climate and market, and that WPA’s worldwide knowledge and technical resources will be invaluable in transforming Jordanian agriculture.
Mr. Zhang Qi, Secretary General of WPA, stated that WPA is fully devoted to serving peasants and is willing to collaborate with the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture to support the growth and transformation of Jordanian agriculture. WPA intends to open a Middle East regional office in Jordan, serving as a regional focus for agricultural innovation that will spread throughout the Middle East and North Africa. He believes that Jordan's unique geographical advantages and political stability in the Middle East, as well as its experience with the 'desert agricultural miracle', make it a benchmark for agricultural modernization in the Middle East and worthy of promotion in neighboring nations.
The two parties also had a detailed discussion about the direction of future cooperation and agreed to improve communication and define the cooperation structure. The two parties agreed to collaborate to support Jordanian agriculture's sustainable growth and contribute to the objective of modernizing agriculture and revitalizing rural areas.
During the visit, members of the delegation met with prominent Jordanian scientists, including Professor Hassan, and other friends to discuss the potential for global sustainable agriculture.
The successful holding of this meeting marks an important step forward in the cooperation between WPA and the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation between the two sides and injecting new hope and momentum into the development of Jordanian agriculture. WPA anticipates the partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture to become a paradigm for the transformation of agriculture in the Middle East, contributing to regional food security and the well-being of peasants.
