Zhang Qi, WPA’s Secretary General, began by stating that China and Nepal are cordial neighbors with solid cooperation foundations and promising futures in agriculture. Zhang Qi also extended an invitation to WPA’s Executive Director Krishna Prasad Oli (Nepal) to attend the 3rd Global Peasant Forum in Cyprus in 2024.

Oli expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Zhang and declared that Nepal will actively participate in the forum to explore new ideas and patterns of agricultural development with representatives worldwide. He stressed that commerce in agricultural products and agricultural technologies was based on a long history of collaboration between China and Nepal. He hoped that both sides could further solidify their cooperation and jointly start a new chapter in agricultural growth.

At the meeting, the two sides engaged in extensive discussions on the coming of Nepalese peasants to China to study agricultural techniques. The participants reached a consensus that increasing agricultural technology exchanges is significant for improving agricultural production efficiency and product quality. To achieve this goal, the two sides will actively facilitate the project of Nepalese peasants’ studying agricultural techniques in China, and provide necessary support and assistance.

In addition, the conference also presented comprehensive talks about various projects, including importing Nepal’s agricultural products such as tea, and implementing drinking water projects in Nepal. The participants stated that they would jointly strive to promote the implementation of these projects and bring tangible benefits to local peasants. Through these projects, the two sides will consolidate and expand their agricultural cooperation.

This international video conference marks a new level of agricultural cooperation between WPA and Nepal. In the future, the two sides will continue to explore agricultural patterns that are appropriate for local development through technical exchanges, knowledge sharing, and experience reference, so as to improve agricultural production efficiency and peasants’ income, while also promoting agricultural sustainability and seeking welfare for global peasants.
