WFA (GPO) Aids Myanmar Earthquake-Hit Regions
Myanmar recently suffered severe casualties and infrastructure damage from a powerful earthquake. The government quickly activated its emergency response, prioritizing search-and-rescue, relief supply coordination, and critical infrastructure repairs. WFA (GPO) immediately joined the effort, working closely with authorities to mobilize global resources for aid.
WFA (GPO)’s Myanmar office teamed up with the East Myanmar Farmers Association to form a joint taskforce, aligning with government relief plans. Rifle Cheung, Vice President of the East Myanmar Farmers Association, led the operation, while WFA (GPO) Myanmar office’s Executive Deputy Director Wu Tengbiao oversaw purchasing essential supplies. These items were efficiently delivered to affected communities through official distribution channels, with the first batch already reaching those in need.
As a close neighbor, China promptly sent emergency supplies and rescue teams to assist with search operations and relief efforts. WFA (GPO) offices in neighboring Thailand and Laos also stepped up, providing additional support to earthquake-hit regions.
WFA (GPO) vowed to continue supporting post-quake recovery, focusing on helping local communities rebuild lives and livelihoods as the nation works toward long-term reconstruction.
