WPA Opens New Chapter in China-Brazil Agriculture Cooperation
On the afternoon of May 27, WPA's Secretary General Zhang Qi met with Executive Secretary of the Latin American Region (Brazilian) Vladimir Milton Pomar, and PER CAPTA's Vice President Espartaco Dutra. The meeting was to discuss potential new agricultural partnership prospects between China and Brazil. It was an opportunity to explore possible avenues for agricultural collaboration between the two countries. It was believed that by merging both sides' skills and resources, the agricultural sector would be encouraged to thrive.
Zhang Qi began the meeting by recalling China and Brazil's long-standing friendship. He also highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of China and Brazil's diplomatic relations, which presents an extraordinary historical opportunity for agricultural cooperation between the two nations. He also noted that China and Pakistan have distinct advantages in terms of agricultural resources and markets. He suggested that more collaboration may help to improve agricultural growth and the well-being of peasants in both nations.
At the meeting, the guests expressed deep concern over the recent severe flooding in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Zhang Qi stated that WPA will organize donation events to provide vital material assistance to people in the devastated areas, demonstrating the profound affinity between the people of China and Brazil through practical actions.
In addition, Zhang Qi provided insights into the upcoming Third Global Peasant Forum, which will be held in Cyprus. He also advocated holding a South American session and inviting Brazil and other countries to attend the meeting online. It seems reasonable to suggest that this initiative will increase the forum's international influence while further promoting agricultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil.
Mr. Pomar described in detail the benefits of Brazilian agriculture and indicated a strong desire for close cooperation with China. He stated that Brazil's agricultural products are of excellent quality and diverse, making them well suited to China's market need, and that collaboration between the two countries has a promising future. Mr. Dutra further underlined PER CAPTA's willingness to serve as a bridge between China and Brazil in agricultural cooperation, as well as to promote the comprehensive development of agricultural trade between the two countries.
Participants engaged in a vigorous discussion about how to deepen China-Pakistan agricultural cooperation, concluding that improving information sharing, technology exchange, and market expansion is critical to increasing cooperation. Simultaneously, specific sectors such as agricultural staff training and agricultural trade facilitation must be prioritized to give significant support for bilateral agricultural cooperation.
In his concluding remarks, Zhang Qi emphasized that China and Brazil have enormous potential for collaboration and development in the agricultural sector. WPA will continue to serve as a link between the two countries, promoting in-depth collaboration and exchanges in the sector of agriculture and contributing to mutual development goals.
The successful holding of this meeting not only deepened mutual understanding and confidence in the sphere of agriculture, but also created the groundwork for future collaboration between the two countries. In the context of globalization and information technology, the two sides will continue to explore new modes of cooperation to jointly address the concerns of food safety and the environment, as well as to achieve agricultural sustainability.
